Gwendolyn Ruais is the newly crowned Miss Philippines World. She aims to become 1st Filipina to win Miss World this November in London. Gwendolyn is half Filipino half French and is also an International Runway Model.

Shes 5’11 tall, and she wants to be the first Miss World from the Philippines. The closest the country has ever gotten to the crown was in 1966 when Evangeline Pascual won first runner-up, and in 1993 when Ruffa Gutierrez won second runner-up.

Now that most beauty queens in the country are almost treated as a hero specially when they had good placements, most of them enjoys cheap holidays abroad as well.

Shamcey Supsup, Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up was admired worldwide by pageant fans, pageant organizers and celebrities. According to the Miss Universe Organization, Shamcey placed second in the evening gown competition, and supporters believe that she did well in the final question round as well.

Celebrities including Oprah Winfrey was surprised when she learned that Miss Philippines didn’t win the tittle and said :

“I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. Shamcey Supsup may not have the Miss Universe 2011 crown but she made filipinos and pageants fans worldwide proud. She was the choice of several international pageant organizers and pageant experts but still as we always say the final say will come from the pageant judges.

During the pageant’s question and answer portion, judge Vivica A. Fox asked Shamcey the question: “Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person that you love? Why or why not?”

The Filipina replied, “If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person I love is God, who created me. I have my faith and my principles, and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God, too.”

Miss Angola Leila Lopes was crowned Miss Universe 2011 in the much awaited pageant held in Brazil’s Sao Paolo. While all odds and online votes went to the Philippines representative Shamcey Supsup, Lopes proved that she was a strong contender and bested 88 other contestants in the worlds most popular pageant.

China’s Luo Zilin was this years fourth runner-up, Philippines’ Shamcey Supsup was third runner-up, Brazil’s Priscila Machado was the second runner up and Olesia Stefanko from Ukraine was this years first runners up.

Also in the top 10 contestants were Australia, Costa Rica, France, Ukraine, Portugal, Panama, Philippines, Angola, China and Brazil.
