Philippines has so many young and talented fashion designers who can design and create great evening gowns for Philippine Deligates to the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant but Stella Araneta opted to hire Alfredo Barazza – a fashion designer to provide not so beautiful gowns from Colombia.

Kim Joo-ri was crowned as Miss Seoul 2009 before competing in Miss Korea 2009. She was one of the top 20 finalists of Miss World Beach Beauty competition which took place at Zimbali Resort, Kwazulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa on November 25, 2009 and she also won 1st runner up in the Miss World 2009 Talent competition.

At the Miss World 2009, she placed in the final Top 16, and won Beauty Queen of Asia. Korea’s last placement was Oh Eun-young in 2005. She later was announced in top 100 Miss Grand Slam and finished 56th place due to her semifinal position in Miss World.

Rima Fakih is a Lebanese American beauty pageant titleholder and currently representing USA in Miss Universe 2010. Some pageant fanatics noticed her resemblance with Paula Abdul.

Although Fakih has been reported to be the first Arab American, the first woman of the Muslim faith and the first immigrant to win the Miss USA title, pageant officials stated their records are not detailed enough to confirm these claims, and some consider the 1983 winner, Julie Hayek, to hold the “first Arab American” distinction, based on her Lebanese descent.

Fakih is a graduate of the University of Michigan–Dearborn, with degrees in economics and business. She plans to attend law school after her year-long reign.
