Oprah Winfrey to be honoured by women”s conference

American TV host Oprah Winfrey will be honoured with a special award at the California Women’s Conference in October.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the talk show legend will be handed out the award by California First Lady Maria Shriver, which is given to honour women “who serve on the frontlines of humanity.

Winfrey is chosen by the conference organisers’ for serving “on the frontlines of humanity” specifically for setting up Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa and Angel Network charity.

The media mogul announced in May that she has closed down the Angel Network set up in 1997, as she prepares to step down from The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011.
