50 million people watched the grand finale of this show in 2002. the budget allocated for the show and its organization increased as the show developed in to more episodes and seasons. The show also inspired a movie that showcased the achievements of Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson and was called From Justin To Kelly. Simon fuller directed and produced this movie which failed miserably at the box office.

Most of the contestants who debuted in the first season of this show went on to make deals with RCA records and then later emerged as independent labels.
