Kelly Clarkson was the winner of the first season of American Idol and she went on to make deals with RCA records and then to a more independently chosen production contract. Justin Guarini was the runner up of this season.

They went on to star in a movie directed by Simon Fuller but it fared badly at the box office. Kelly Clarkson’s “breakaway” became a hit song post season win. The album breakaway featured on many nomination lists of award shows like the grammys and MTV music awards. Nikki Mcgibbin and Tamyra gray featured in the final rounds but did not win.

The Kelly Clarkson hit song “a moment like this” opened at number 52 of the billboard music countdown. Justin Guarini who became the first runner up in the first season finale went on to release the album Justin Guarini and then Stranger Things Have Happened. The more jazzy version of his albums was stranger things have happened. Unchained melody was a cover song for this album while “be a heartbreaker” and “one heart too many” were the other songs which became hits.

Nikky Mcgibbin made deals with RCA records but had to release herself because she didn’t want to make a country album. Tamyra Gray made a deal with RCA too but was released before any successful albums were made. The other contestants also made their own record deals but have not succeeded as well as the winner and the runner up of the first season.

Season 2

This season saw the separation of Brian Dunkelman and Ryan Seacrest as the hosts of the show. Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken were the winner and runner up respectively. This season also saw the over congestion of the telephone networks as the phone in voters clambered to make calls and register their votes in favor of their favorite musicians. The voting system for this season seems to have been faulty and hence it was subjected to modifications in the later seasons.

Even though Clay Aiken did not win the contest hed did go on to make a hit single which remained in the top hundred for a long time. This hit single was called “this is the night”. Josh Gracin released country albums while Carmen Rasmusen went on to release an album with an independent record company and then a single in 2007. contestant Corey Clark was sent off the show for having possessed a police record and not having disclosed it to the organizers of the American Idol show.

Season 3

Fantasia Barrino

This season saw the pinnacle of popularity of the show and was registered by Forbes as the biggest grossing and most highly rated show of all time TV history.

Fantasia Barrino was the winner of this season and Diana DeGarmo was the runner up. In this season, the Filipino third runner Jasmine Trias was dicovered with her popular rendition of Inseperable.

This is also the season which saw the UC Berkeley student William Hung perform the ricky martin number “she bangs” which was so hilarious and offkey that it won more recognition than the other legitimate singers with Koch entertainment which made him half a million dollars.
